OUR CONCERNS (continued)

Past issues of CBA have featured new cover artwork by the profiled artist, merging into the CBA masthead. Our feeling is that when the artwork is integrated with the masthead, the identity of the magazine becomes compromised.

We’d like to suggest that any new design take a more “hands off” approach. It’s important to remember that every issue of a magazine is someone’s very first issue. To be fair, both Time Magazine and Cosmo and a host of other magazines allow their mastheads to be obscured -- sometimes almost entirely. But they do so with the knowledge that they have millions of established readers and fair, if not absolute, name recognition.
